Based on feedback from the FEAR players survey, and other direct feedback to the committee from players, the FEAR Ultimate Disc Club committee wishes to announce our Team Development Plan for 2011.

The goal of the Team Development Plan is to provide playing and development opportunites for players looking for more competitive play than the PUL Division 2.

The plan also aims to improve the skills of all of our players, and the standard of play across ALL Fear teams.

The plan involves the following steps (in the short term):

  • Determine which players are interested in developing to play at a Div 1 level
  • Put all those players on the same team in the coming Div 2 league, in order to get experience playing together (there may be selections here depending on numbers)
  • Players wanting to be on the Div-1 team are strongly encouraged to attend the FEAR Sunday training sessions
  • Review at the end of that league whether to move that team to Div 1, or play a 2nd Div 2 league together
  • Move other players in/out of the league team as required

The WAFDA has recently announced that the next Div 1 league will comprise two ‘mini-leagues’, starting with a ‘hat’ league which will allow Div-2 players interested in playing in Div-1 to try it out without having to find a team.  Following that will be another Div-1 league in the standard format.

FEAR encourages all players interested in trying Div-1 to sign up for the Div-1 HAT league beginning 6th April 2011.  Note that depending on the number of Div-2 teams playing in the next league, it is possible that there could be two timeslots for Div-2 games.  Players in the FEAR development team should consider Div-2 games as their primary focus, and compete in Div-1 games only if there is no clash.  FEAR will lobby WAFDA to schedule as many Div-2 games as possible in the 6:30 timeslot for this team in order to minimise disruption to the Div-1 league.

The development team will also form a core group of players that can also play together at tournaments in Perth, interstate and overseas, supplemented by other FEAR players who also wish to compete in those events.

Note that training sessions will remain open to all players of all levels, they are not exclusive to the development team.  By including everyone at training we will improve players in the other teams as well as the development team.  Ideally we will build a large group of players regularly training together, with less experienced players developing the skills and experience to be able to move into the primary team..
